PC's In RP: Nina Reynolds, Kale Location: Inn and Out Purpose: For Kale to show Nina Shadowland Nina Reynolds wanders down to the lobby of the Gateway Regency, dressed in comfortable cordiory pants and a couple layered shirts and her trenchcoat over all. Her shoulder bag is about 3/4 full now with some electronics toys inside along with her shock gloves and narcoject pistol. Nina comes out of the stairway a little before midnight and then heads to the newspaper machine and downloads the current newsload into her pocsec to look over the local news while she waits for Kale. A few minutes later Kale comes downstairs from his room floors above at the Gateway. He is dressed in his standard white tank-top, loose boots, and dull green cargo khakis. Over all this he wears a black trenchcoat, most likely armored judging from the padded look to it, and he appears to have taken the extra precaution of having an armored Vest underneath that. The bulge beneath the coat betrays the presence of what is probably a firearm, and there is a bag slung over his shoulder, most likely holding his deck. He looks around briefly, then smiles, having spotted Nina, and walks over to her. "Hey there you. Good to see you again." He takes a deep breath, then continues, "Ready to head out?" You have left channel Public. Nina Reynolds turns as Kale speaks and folds up her pocsec and slips it into a pocket of her trenchcoat as a smile comes to her lips, "Ready and willing.. was just reading up on the news about some explosion at a club yesterday." she sighs, "It's a crazy city we live in," and she starts moving towards the exit with Kale, not sure where she's going to be taken this day. Kale's face screws into a grimmace at the news of the explosion, as he leads Nina out the door, into the blustery raining Detroit streets. "Which club was that? The Barricade? I wouldn't be too surprised if it was... that's a bad part of town." He leads her over to his Blitzen, gunmetal blue, with the vanity plates TRON, and climbs on in front. "Hop on behind me, and put this on." He hands her the spare helmet, before fastening his own over his head. "We're going to go get a little coffin for the night, to do our stuff from there. I should be able to get one under a fake name." Nina Reynolds follows Kale out and climbs on behind him, moving her shoulderbag back over behind her back and responds before pulling on the helmet, "They said it was named "Enigma".. down on the riverfront." she fastens up the strap under her chin and then leans a bit forward to put her hands around Kale's waist, "Gentle with me," she warns with a playful tone in her voice, "don't break me." Kale grins over his shoulder before slapping the visor down over his face, unable to resist the temptation. "You'd better hold on to me tight then." He tosses a wink back at her, closes the visor, and kick-starts the bike. With a powerful shudder it comes to life, and, glancing once over his shoulder briefly to check for oncoming trafic, Kale pulls it out into the road and speeds off towards the Blight. He controls the bike gracefully, being careful not to take any uneeded risks or drive as recklessly as he might on his own. He obviously doesn't want to startle the woman behind him on the bike. Nina Reynolds holds on tight, not being familiar with riding on bikes she holds herself a bit closer than is neccessary. A couple soft bumps of the helmets during stops or upshifting while coming away from stoplights and after a short time she starts to get the hang of it. She's an athletic sort of a woman that learns quick, sharp as a whip she is soon an 'old hand' at "Riding Bitch" as they head for the Blight. Kale kicks down a gear, and hits a more liesurely pace, realizing that they have time, the night is young, and honestly enjoying the feeling of having her ride behind him. As they enter the Blight, however, Kale picks up the speed again, his relaxation all but forgotten in the moment. He glances cautiously around as they ride, ever watchful for ganger crossfires, or, worse yet for someone on a bike, a group of go-gangers. The way remains clear, however, and soon he pulls up the bike in front of an old dirty hostel-style building, complete with a flashing holo-neon sign proclaiming "Inn & Out: free trid, hourly rates." He stops the bike, letting the engine purr to a halt between his legs, then pulls off his helmet. He grins over his shoulder, and waits for you to dismount first. "That wasn't so bad, now was it?" Nina Reynolds slips off the bike with a bounce and lands on her feet like a nimble cat and flips up her visor and then works at the strap under her chin, "That was a lot of fun.. I'm going to have to figure out how to get you to take me on rides more often." she looks around as she pulls the helmet off and looks quite concerned, "That nice bike of yours going to be safe in a neighborhood like this?" She moves the shoulderbag around to her side and opens the top so that its loose and open and she can reach inside real quick and then puts the helmet on the rear seat of the very exspensive racing motorycycle. Kale shrugs slightly, swinging his leg over the seat and coming to stand lightly next to you. His moves are graceful and elegant, without much wasted movement or effort. "As safe as anything in the Blight could be. Your average petty thief won't even /think/ about touching it. He doesn't know that it doesn't belong to one of the various go-gangs around here. And /they/ probably won't mess with it either, unless they're looking to start trouble with a rival gang... in which case we'd have a lot more to worry about than just my bike being stolen." He jerks his head towards the dirty glass doors of the Inn & Out, as he starts to move towards them saying, "The next time I take you out riding, we'll go someplace a little friendlier, where we don't have to worry about such things, eh?" Nina Reynolds listens to Kale but her face shows she's far from convinced with his logic, her body language shows additional signs of being on edge and defensive with the overall setting she has found herself in and she moves to join up with him, snatching up the helmet so, it a least, doesn't get stollen, "Sounds like a good idea.. BTW.. thank you for dinner last night, I haven't eaten that well in months." she then pulls up her sleave and looks at her wristphone, taking the moment to assure that there is good phone signal coverage in this area because she's quite sure she's going to need to be calling someone for a ride home after the bike is stollen. From afar, Jasper eyes the +where, "Ahhh. -That- kind of RP. Yeah, I thought I heard some bedsprings creaking." Kale laughs slightly, obviously slightly on edge as well, and not eager to admit it to himself. He holds the door for you as he answers. "It was my pleasure. I really enjoyed having the chance to take you out, as impromptu as it was. And I haven't eaten terribly well recently myself." A slight frown passes over his face briefly, "Though I have to admit I'm still not fond of the fact that our drinks were payed for anonymously. That's just..." he trails off thinking of the right word, "...creepy." He shakes his head sharply, as if trying to dislodge the thought, and some of the humour returns to his expression as they move inside. He steps up to the man standing behind a dirty, much scarred counter. There is plas-crete mesh in the glass, and it is almost definitely bullet-proofed in one way or another. He speaks in low tones for a moment, then reaches into a trenchcoat pocket and produces, surprisingly, cash instead of a credstick, which he hands to the man. Hitching his bag further up on his shoulder, he turns to you, reading off the key he was handed. "Looks like we're in 607 upstairs. Shall we?" Nina Reynolds follows Kale inside, commenting about the drinks, "You think it was the guy at the bar I pointed out to you that paid for the drinks? He managed that sort of vulnerable creepy feeling the night before also." she moves in with Kale through the door and waits for him as he pays for the room and then asks of the man behind the plascrete meshed barrier that sold them the room and gave Kale the key, "Excuse me sir.. is there any taxi service down around here?" being quite polite for the area she's not aware that polite shows weakness in this environment. Kale winces slightly to himself, and turns around once again, coming up behind Nina. Taking your hand, he tugs you gently towards the stairs. "Come along /dear/" he stresses the word, trying to fill it with as much implication as he can. He's obviously told the clerk some story which he doesn't want you to blow. "I'm sure the gentleman is very busy. We can look up a taxi service in the directory once we have settled in a bit." Nina Reynolds gets drug away with quickly fading objection and then goes along with Kale towards the stairs and towards their room, "What was that all about?" she asks quietly as they start trudging up the stairs. Kale makes a ruefull face, "Sorry about that. Two things. The first is that the story I gave him was that we are a newly married couple, running from our parents who don't approve of the marriage. Took a page from my own folks book, with that one. Didn't want you accidentally saying anything that would make him more suspicious of us than he already is. The second thing..." he stops his progress up the stairs, and turns to look at you, "you were being a bit too nice to him. Not that there is anything wrong with being polite, but here in the Blight, no one really is... so it makes you stick out. Both in their memory, and as a potential target or victim." Nina Reynolds grimices as they continue up the stairs. Nina has a deffinate ability to hold her own when endurence is at hand, but more impressive is the instance where she slips on some wet goo in the stairway and her hands move out and feet shoot out to catch herself faster than the eyes can register as movment. She most certainly has some sort of enhanced speed ability that until now wasn't readily apparent. As they walk up she takes Kale's advice with a couple nods and serious contemplation. Up ahead a few floors a door slams and Nina's hand darts into her shoulderbag at her side and has a narcoject pistol out and in view before she can really think about what she's doing. It's held at her side, at the ready with the first pad of her right index finger lightly touching the trigger. She doesn't seem to know the gun is in her hand it seems, but as she walks up the stairs her pace is now slowed and she looks up frequently in the gap between the stairs to look for trouble. Kale frowns, looking slightly concerned. He puts out a friendly hand, and smiles gently. "Hey, Nina. Calm down. Everything is going to be just fine. As bad as all the stories are, and as much as that guy may have scared you, this place isn't as bad as you think. We're taking every precaution needed, we're both armed, and most people here in the Blight are following the same rules we are... that is 'I don't mess with you, you don't mess with me.' Ok?" He seems genuinely concerned for her, and is obviously trying to comfort her, though the fact that he means what he's saying is also obvious. These aren't just empty platitudes to make some simpleton feel better. Nina Reynolds pauses in her step, a look in her eyes shows a certain coldness that hasn't been shown before.. but it fades as Kale speaks to her and she is able to lock eyes with his. She seems to warm and melt by his words and then looks down to her hand as if curious why the gun is there. Nina slips the narcoject pistol back into her shoulderbag just as a large ork female with a basket of laundry comes into view and then passes them as she heads down the stairs with a grunt sort of a hello and then is gone as quick as she arrived. Nina waits a moment and then takes in a deep breath, "Your right.. of course your right.. I'm sorry." she appears genuinely sorry for her recent actions, and then she starts up the stairs again muttering quietly to herself, "I hope your right." Kale shakes his head slightly, smiling as he lets you preceed him up the stairs by a foot or two. He takes a deep breath, and follows you up, glancing back down the stairs the way the Ork woman went with her laundry. Under his breath, to himself he whispers, "I hope I am too..." Reaching the 6th floor, they move out off the landing and into the hallway, searching the doorways along the hall for number 607. When they finally do come to it, the number 7 has fallen slightly so that it reads room number 60L. Kale stops and slots the key in the maglock, watching as the little verification light flashes green and the mechanical whirring of the door unlocking is heard. He looks up at you, smiles, and pushes the door open. Apartment 607 -- Upon entering this room the smell almost overwhelms you. A bed with a heavily worn spring matress rests in the corner next to you. A small night stand is next to the bed with a bolted on alarm clock. The walls have suffered water damage as well as smoke film damage. A window if at the far length of the room. Which only happens to be about 13 to 14 feet from you. The floors is somewhat clean. It looks as though it was mopped recently. A set of clean sheet rests at the end of the bed. A small dresser is up against the wall to your right. The dresser used to have a mirror on it however for some reason thats disappeared. Contents: Kale Obvious exits: Out Nina Reynolds steps through the door and into the apartment and waits until Kale is inside with her and the door is closed, "I thought you were taking me to a coffin motel." she looks around with a smile, "heck.. this is a lot better than what I was expecting, there's lots of room, heck.. even electricity." she looks impressed at the nice surprise. Kale blinks in surprise, then laughs a full, happy-sounding laugh. "Well, remember, we have certain needs for our purposes. That, for one." He raises a finger, still chuckling, and points at the jackpoint in the wall, connecting this room to the Detroit Telecom Grid. "That and..." he trails off, actually blushing slightly, and coughs. "...er, that is, for the story I told them... that we were newlyweds... we needed some room to make that believeable. I bribed the manager to leave us be, dropped a few suggestive winks, and let his imagination fill in the reason why." He shakes his head, and drops his duffelbag gently on the bed. Unzipping it, he pulls free his cyberdeck, and sets it on the floor next to the jackpoint. Nina Reynolds makes sure the door is locked as Kale speaks to her and he moves to the bed to take out his cyberdeck, and then she reaches in a pocket of her trenchcoat and pulls out a three inch plastic wedge that is used in businesses to prop open doors by putting on the floor to hold the door open by wedging the plastic between the door and the floor. Nina takes the door wedge and stuffs it under the bottom edge of the door, probably an inch or so showing under the door into the hallway, but this way she figures the door will need to be shouldered in with enough force to bust the hindges and not a simple electronics trick on the maglock to gain entry and surprise them. Nina turns as Kale takes out his cyberdeck and she watches as he places it next to the jackpoint in the wall as she starts to undo her trenchcoat to get more comfortable, her hand reaches in and she pulls out two small 1/2 liter bottles of water and offers one to Kale as she moves over to see what's expected of her on this adventure. Kale raises an eyebrow at the procedure with the door, but says nothing, nodding to himself at the precaution. He accepts the offered water with a smile, and, popping the top, swigs down a mouthfull or two before beginning. "Alright, this is going to be nice and straightforward... First I'll show you how to run a basic search to locate Shadowland's address for the day. It changes daily to keep KE out of our business. Even though I'll be using a deck, and Direct Neural Interface, it works the same way as a regular desktop computer you could go out and buy. Then we'll scan a few posts on the board, and see what sort of jobs are being offered... sound good?" As he speaks, he unwinds a length of fiber-optic cable connected to his deck, and plugs it into the jackpoint in the wall. Another cord, he unwinds and toys with in his fingers. He unfolds a 10" flat-screen digital display. "You watch on that. We shouldn't bump into any trouble just cruising Shadowlands, but in the very slim chance something goes wrong, you just pull the cord out of my head, ok? It will hurt, but I'd rather deal with dump shock than the chance of being traced." Nina Reynolds paces slowly back and forth as Kale explains things as she twists the cap off her water bottle and takes a couple small drinks, glancing around the room to get a feel for window, restroom type exits and distances. She stops pacing though as the screen is folded out and she stands watching curiously, "Okay.. this sounds good.. I'm sure you know what your doing with this matrix stuff. Is it true that when you jack in like that, that your not aware of what's going on around your meat body?" Kale nods, looking up at you. "I was just getting to that. I'll be almost completely comatose. I can /sort of/ tell what's going on, but it takes great effort to do so. Most of the time, I'll be completely focused on the 'trix. To tell the truth, it's pretty creepy to be around someone jacked in. Also, you'll be able to hear me through the speakers on the deck, but I won't be able to hear you... you'll have to type in what you want to say on my keyboard attatchment." He pulls a keyboard out of the duffel bag and plugs it in to the deck. Nina Reynolds sweeps her trenchcoat out behind her as she moves down to sit cross-legged on the floor near the cyberdeck and then she places the offered keyboard on her lap and adjusts so that she can see the fold out screen she's anxiously awaiting to experience this matrix event, "Roger that.. if something goes bad, yank your cord.. if I need to talk to you.. type.. can see and hear from vidscreen... anything else?" You rolled: 2 4 9 SUCCESS: you found Shadowland's location today. Kale thinks about it for a moment, then shakes his head. "I can't think of anything else. This is, after all, a pretty basic matrix run. We won't be running across any IC, or breaking Ares 'trix grids today..." He reaches down, and plugs the jack into the datajack in his temple, then smiles and looks over at you. "You ready?" Nina Reynolds turns her attention to the screen, glances just once over her shoulder at the door and then takes out her narcoject pistol and lays it on the floor next to her right knee and then nods to Kale, "Ready." and then looks to the screen. Kale nods once, then, agreeing with the idea, pulls his Ares Predator III out of his trenchcoat and lays it on the floor between them, within easy reach of either of them. His eyes grow distant for a moment, then he slumps slightly as he logs into the Matrix. His persona materializes on the vidscreen, along with a view of the LTG. Detroit Regional Telecommunications Grid The glowing crosshatched landscape of a typical grid stretches out all around you. Floating in space above is a bewildering array of access nodes which would allow you to connect to every RTG on Earth should you so desire, as well as a few that aren't. Several groundbound nodes allow you to connect to Detroit local grids. Looming over it all in the background is the huge pyramid of Ares Macrotechnology's main matrix site, and to counterpoint this impressive example of grid architecture a glowing red ARES MACROTECHNOLOGY logo hangs in the virtual sky. Beams of colored light flash in a constant stream from node to node, the virtual representation of terapulse after terapulse of data being routed through this grid. The reality filter on his deck is making everything seem as if it were high fantasy style. The Ares pyramid is portrayed as a large fortress, complete with ramparts, battlements, and flying buttresses. The quicksilver mouth never moves, but Kale's voice comes anyway. "Ok, first step is to run a system scan. Just a basic search for the proper board." The silver-angel icon moves to show you how this is done, and within a minute or two of searching, an address is found, represented through the reality filter by a willowisp leading him through the glades and fields of the LTG to the proper location. ----------------- Nina Types ------------------ Roger that, sounds simple enough.. is this stuff relatively basic if I bought a laptop? Or do I need to buy a program or two to do these searches on my own later? --------------------------------------------- The quicksilver angel shakes its head slightly, and once again Kale's voice can be heard. "The programs can help make the search go quicker, but they aren't needed. Just your basic laptop or desktop comp will be able to do it. Providing, of course, that it can access the 'trix. Not all laptops can, so be careful when and if you buy one." The willowisp leads them to a dark brooding little tower, nestled against an outcropping of high-rez digital rock in a clearing. Flatline gestures graniosely. "Shadowlands. Or at least, how my reality filter digitally represents Shadowland." Flatline moves to the door, and enters. Within are shelves and shelves of scrolls, tomes, and codices. A piece of parchment is posted on the wall, listing a directory of what is where. In general, don't reveal who you are, don't insult people who sound like they know what they are talking about, and don't hold forth on things you don't really know much about... everything else, you'll just pick up as you go along." As far as that Pred goes, I've had to use it before, and I'm still here. I can use it. For the second job listing, your electronics/burgaling skills get us in. Question: Do most people work with teams? ----------------------------------------------- Flatline ponders the question for a quick moment, but his voice is sure when he responds. "That's a tough question to answer. Most jobs require enough skills to get done that it takes more than one person. We deckers are probably the most solo fliers, but I for one prefer to work with a team when possible. Yes it means less profit, but it also means less chance of you getting busted, someone to watch your back, and people you can call on later. "Sounds wonderful. Speaking of which, did you need anything else for now, or are we good to go?" Flatline shimmers and fades as the icon disappears from the matrix. Nina Reynolds is placing the keyboard on the floor now and picking up her narcoject pistol and tucking it into her belt as she stands, "Just joking about the marker." she grins with a playful smile. Kale shudders and blinks a few times as he jacks out of the Matrix. He reaches up and pulls the feed from his temple and coils it into its proper case. He grins up at you, "I've had worse done to my meat body while I was in the 'trix. Besides, as prepared as you came..." he gestures to the water bottles, and the door wedge, "something told me you hadn't brought a marker." Nina Reynolds nods with a grin as she bends and picks up her water bottle and twists off the top to take a drink as she paces once more, "I've been tought this high grade illusion spell by the company.. that's what I was referring to about a walk in Veneice. I thought it might be fun to take a trip, get away for a few hours in a world far from this city." she offers a grin as she looks around the sleezy little apartment room, "Could we head to a nicer part of town though? I'd hate to mess with my perceptions and my senses to the point of believing I'm in a different location when in a spot that is not conducive to a long and healthy life." she grins. Kale packs up his deck quickly, and hoslters his gun once more inside his trenchcoat. "Sounds like a blast. I'd love to, though I have to admit, this will be the first time I've ever had magic really worked on me... My mother was a shaman, but she didn't really do much of that after moving to Seattle." He tosses the duffel over his shoulder. "Shall we go see if my Bike is still there?" Nina Reynolds nods with a grin as she moves to the door and then picks up the plastic wedge under the door after yanking and pulling it back and forth to loosen it. Nina holds up two crossed fingers, the sign of hope for luck and nods with a smile, "Here's to Luck." and then she opens the door with her right hand on the narcoject pistol in her belt as she scans outside the room. Nina leads the way down the stairs, "There is a spell made for such things that is much easier to use than the one I'm going to use for us today. The other spell is designed for entertainment and thus needs an accepting participant to let the magic work on them. The spell I know though is different, its an acutal assault or manipulation of the senses physically.. you will litterally smell the water, feel the cool breeze, hear the water lapping against the boats and the conversations of people along the walkway.. even taste will be real to you if we stop and eat at a cafe. It's a much more draining spell though and takes much effort to use. But the company wanted me to learn the more economically viable spell for the business and not neccessarily using it for entertainment. My spell can fool the senses of people.. as well as things like cameras. It's a real neat spell to use when you need to mislead people, distracting and the like." and she keeps heading down the stairs with Kale as they talk. Kale laughs at the idea and follows you down the stairs. "A spell to completely wrap someone in illusion that complete... that would be useful, I would think. This will be fun." At the lobby, he pauses and returns the key by dropping it in the drop box, to avoid the manager and awkward questions about their early departure. He leads Nina outside and they get on the Blitzen. Kale revs the engine once, and pulls out into the rainy Detroit night, driving quickly back to the Gateway Regency. He parks the bike, and leads Nina up to his apartment... 410. He gives her the grand tour quickly, and drops his stuff off in the bedroom, then sits back in the living room and lets her wrap them both in illusion. The next few hours are spent in "Venice" taking a long bike ride, and then later a pleasant walk by the shore, to watch the "sunset." They stop, at one point, in a small "bistro" and have real coffee and merely enjoy each other's company, glowing in the prospect of business which will be done together, and occasionally just sitting in silence together, smiling. At the end of the spell, Kale offers Nina a hug, and best wishes, promising to call later in the day and to get in touch as soon as he knows something about the job.
